Unwritten Goals Are Merely Wishes

Ever heard that an unwritten goal is just a wish? I bet you did and it's logical and true. Unwritten goals are just dreams that are not going to happen without any action or being proactive. The first step to achieve a goal is to write it down in an agenda or a planner to make sure the thought is saved and going to be forgotten.

goal, plan, quote, wish

A strong reason I feel why we don't reach goals nowadays is because we just think of an idea or a position we want to attain in life and are confident that we are going to remember it and keep it in mind. Besides writing down your goal there are a bunch of other steps:

1- Set deadlines
If you don't set deadlines for your goals, they remain dreams and wishes. You might try to achieve the goal but don't put in a lot of effort or work and so fail initially. This tends to have us postpone our goals and keep pushing them further and maybe never getting to them. Therefore, setting a deadline is very important in this case to ensure we put in our utmost efforts to accomplish our goals in the allotted time.

2- Construct a plan
Planning out your work leading to achieving a goal is needed. Without a plan, working hard can be useless as there is no real plan which you are following. It can end up being like doing abstract work that doesn't help with your progress. Having a plan results in organization which is key to attaining anything and with organization we can finish one task at a time, thus climbing closer to our goals.

3- Take an action
Setting deadlines and constructing effective plans aimed at achieving your goals is amazing. But is it of any use without taking the action and being proactive? Not really, taking an initiative is what yields something. Successful people would never be renowned for their success by sitting on the couch waiting for change to happen. Be the change you want to see around you.

4- Start with the end in mind
What does this even mean? After deciding what a certain goal you aspire to is, imagine that you are already there and that you already achieved your goal. Then, work backwards (reverse engineer it) to realize the steps or tasks you need to complete to reach such a point. I feel this really effective because visualizing goals is one of the ways to get closer to them. For the sake of further simplifying things, I'll mention an example. Let's say you aspire to be a famous soccer player. Sit with yourself and visualize yourself being that soccer player. Once you do, you might figure that you need to maybe allocate some time everyday for practice, maybe try to build up connections to talk to a club's coach to start your career there, and perhaps inform your parents and get their support on this.

5- Set realistic goals
This is also something that we need to raise awareness about. Some individuals set extraordinary goals of let's say getting this super amazing sports car such as a GTR or a Ferrari given that they are still students in university for instance. Well, this is a good start, where they're thinking of goals to achieve. However, is this really realistic or practical? Maybe if their family is really rich, but not for the average family. I'm not saying a goal like this cannot be achieved, but needs a loooot of hard work... So it isn't really realistic to set goals that are obviously out of our reach, because what often happens is once we try hard and fail once or twice we lose hope. That loss of hope results in loss of determination and in extreme cases, depression, which is in no way the aim behind setting goals.

6- List down the tools needed
It is important to list and lay infront of you the tools needed to accomplish your goals. These tools may include people you need to meet up with or consult, equipment you need to set up... whatever it is... Knowing what you need to achieve your goals is vital because this just brings you closer and closer to attaining your goals.

7- Measure your progress
During your journey towards your goals you could and should measure your progress to know where your at. Not measuring your progress could lead you astray and you might not know where you've reached in terms of achieving your goals and might cause a delay or not grabbing this goal.

Note: What are some goals you have and what are the actions you took to make sure you achieve it?
