Spend Today To Save Tomorrow

Let me start by saying that I personally integrate the following principle in my daily life: spend today to save tomorrow. As vague as this sounds, it is true. What is meant by this is that it's better to spend more money now on natural/organic food and habits than to spend a lot more money later on medical bills due to the unhealthy food and habits. Don't you agree?

This topic actually extends outside nutrition and eating as well to many other areas. One of these areas for instance is exercising. You might say I don't need to get a membership at the gym, walk a couple of miles a day, or do any kind of exercise because I already look good. Exercise is something that is very vital in life and is needed regardless of our physical appearance. This is because our physical appearance doesn't always say it all. Someone might look good on the outside while his organs are suffering on the inside.

I remember once watching Dr. Oz on the television and he had volunteers come out of the audience for an experiment. The experiment included having the volunteers state their real age, and then after doing a general checkup, the system would actually return back how old their body or a certain organ really feels. It was really interesting and stunning at the same time because for some it was a wake-up call that they need to take action and take care of their health more. So that's that...

Another area where the principle of spending more to save tomorrow applies is work. A lot of us are under the impression that the more we work, the more we get accomplished and possibly the more money we make or the higher in position we reach. That's true to some extent. However, we are forgetting something very important, which is that there are other things of significance to us including: family, spouse, and health. There are people that need to work those extra hours to feed their family and to make just enough money to break the surface and live a "satisfactory" life. On the other hand, there are other people in good situations that tend to work extra hours without the real need for it. For those people, the principle applies where you could save this extra effort and exert it instead in spending time with the family and children that need your presence. This action could potentially save a mother-son relationship or a father-daughter relationship and maintain these strong connections from breaking.

Education is another way or area where we could apply this concept of spending and saving. So, let's say your daughter or son just turned 4 or 5 and is now ready to start his academic life. Would you rather enroll them in a school that would just give them an average education or one that would provide them with a strong basis and foundation for their future? I'm hoping your answer is the school that provides them with a strong background. Let's think of it together. The average school in town may provide them with the necessary learning needed to just move through school and get average grades. However, you may need to pay extra money for your daughter or son to take some extra preparatory courses needed to provide them with extra skills to get into university and may take them a while to complete. Conversely, an above average school would surely cost more but looking at the long run, they might not need to take any courses and may even have skills above what is needed for university. They even might be granted a scholarship for their grades that are above average.

One thing we need to understand though is that it is "easier said than done". However, given the options we need to try and pick out the best fit option for our situation and the one that yields maximum benefits.

What are other ways in which you could "spend today to save tomorrow" that are of significance do you think?
